The game likes throwing exceptions but they all seem to be the MSC exception, this was the only block that stood out. Googling the exception codes, 0xc0000096 may be related to Data Execution Prevention...? It may explain the 0xc000001d codes that follow (illegal instruction).

Can confirm the game will not launch, nothing happens.
Obvious in hindsight, but this game uses CEG... so that explains that.

Indeed, according to SteamDB, it seems that this game uses CEG DRM:
https://steamdb.info/app/246580/config/
So, it's related to issue https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/753
More info about CEG: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Digital_rights_management_(DRM)#Custom_Executable_Generation
Just tested, the game will work fine on Lutris (WINE, Steam for Windows), so it is definitely a Proton issue with CEG DRM.
With latest Proton Experimental the game launches, but character models (player and zombies) are not rendered. Setting "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" as a launch option fixes the problem.

With PROTON_USE_WINED3D launch option:

Game is working out of the box now without any issues on proton-6.3-8-rc :tada:
As of Proton 7.0-1, the game renders correct without PROTON_USE_WINED3D, way better performance now with DXVK. I observe 60 FPS lock.
Carny/4th story chapter/mission.
The sound and voice effects don't play for a single enemy(the buffed up guy that shows up twice on Agent difficulty that requires about 3-4 words to beat, not the boss).
To be exact winning with the guy doesn't play audio "Hammer Time" shows up only as a subtitle there's 0 sound effects when wacking the guy.

@tikva-tikva I could repro on windows, so this seems to be a game issue.
