Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Crimzon Clover World EXplosion
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1718160

System Information

  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1070ti
  • Driver/LLVM version: nvidia 495.44
  • Kernel version: 5.15
  • Proton version: Proton Experimental

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

The game is unable to open the Sh.jojo, Sh2.jojo and Sh3.jojo data files that reside in steamapps/common/Crimzon Clover World EXplosion/ alongside the game executable. Because of this textures aren't drawn and sound doesn't play. Only colored lines and rectangles are visible.

I am able to get the game working by copying the game directory into the proton prefix and launching it manually with these commands:

export SteamAppId="1718160"
export STEAM_COMPAT_CLIENT_INSTALL_PATH=~/.steam/steam
export STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1718160
~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ -\ Experimental/proton run ./CrimzonCloverWEX.exe

Reproduction

  1. Launch the game

False alarm.

Turns out I was encountering the issue discussed here:
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50893

Simply touching my home directory as suggested fixed the problem.

@AwesamLinux I played around with this a bit, and I got very inconsistent crashing on experimental (and no crashing on 8.0-3) which smells like a race condition that may have been introduced in the 8.0-x branch or maybe you are just suddenly getting unlucky. Could you try disabling the steam overlay for the game and seeing if that fixes the crash consistently?

AAwesamLinux 2023-08-02 github

@alasky17 I have now tested disabling the Steam overlay, and with the overlay disabled game does not crash on launch and not during gameplay either (for as long as I have played anyway).

With the Steam overlay disabled I have tried:

  • Proton-8.0-3c - Played through arrange mode without issues
  • Experimental-bleeding-edge-8.0-51469-20230802 - Played through all stages on Arcade and Arrange mode in one sitting (about 1.5 hours)

So disabling the Steam overlay seems to solve the crash on launch with recent Protons.
