It has been reported in the forums so it is likely something the developer should fix.
Hello @ipr, it looks like this is an OpenGL game. PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 wouldn't have an effect when DirectX isn't in the render path.
It may be worthwhile to also mention this issue to your video driver vendor.
I can confirm this is a GPU related issue and not a Proton issue. I have the missing terrain problem on my Steam Deck (AMD GPU), while the game is perfectly fine on my Linux Mint desktop (NVIDIA GPU). The game may just not be compatible with AMD and integrated GPUs.
Update 2024: I have recently switched my desktop from NVIDIA to AMD. No terrain issue. So the problem stems from integrated GPUs specifically.
Don't exactly have the game to check on hand, but it seems like the issue was still present around September 2023

My GPU is not integrated to CPU or motherboard so that theory goes out the window.
However, with Proton 9.0-2 and Mesa 24.1.3 it is working fine.
Tested on oled Steam deck LE with proton Experimental. game still seems to be having shadow problems, none of which appear on my laptop with nvidia.
@tarceri sorry for the ping but I just recently got it on sale and tested it.

Symptoms
Parts of the level (terrain) is not rendering. Game has some platform-jumping elements so this becomes apparent quickly: you see background scenery instead of the forefront terrain where you are standing.
Problem occurs both with DXVK and with PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
Game logs that texture is not found (Maps/Stage1/Textures/Material__26) which does not exist in game directory: unknown if it should exist (or if it is something else).
