use compatibility layer proton 7.0.6 and it works
I can confirm that using proton 7.0.6 on the steam deck can fix the problem and I can use 2 gamepads.
So it seems a regression to me.
@mercuriete Thank you for reporting this! We found the regression and it is fixed in proton-experimental and the fix will be in future Proton releases :)
@alasky17 ok, I retested today and it seems it works on proton 9.0-4
But looking by the dates it feels wrong to me. Because that was released on dec 11th and my post was on dec 25th
I dont remember in which version it was broken.
@MaximilianKresse can you retest?
I think is fine on my side.
@mercuriete We did a sneaky bump to 9.0-4 a little while ago and fixed this bug :) We don't always update the changelog when we do little bumps like that.
@alasky17 Thanks for the explanation :)
I am very happy with the steam deck product in general.
Good job and thank you'all :)
Yes, the problem seems to be solved. Thank you very much.

System Information
I confirm:
Symptoms
XBOX 360 (wireless) controllers aren't getting recognized at all. Tested with exactly 2 additional controllers. The steamdeck controller is getting recognized without any problems.
When deactivating steam input for the controllers the first one and the steamdeck controller are getting recognized but not the second controller.
I tested it with the exact same controllers on windows and they work without any problems.
There are also some reports on protonDB that others also have the same problem.
Note: the controllers work totally fine in steam and in other games.
