Proton fails to launch if i have changed my monitor resolution to non native in nvidia x settings

Replication

have 2 monitors connected by display port on an NVIDIA GPU one 1440p native the other 1080p native
open NVIDIA x server settings using sudo
under X server display configuration click advanced
click the 1080p native monitor
set vewportin to 2560x1440
close NVIDIA settings
open steam and try to start any game
it will fail to open after trying to sync to steam cloud
