Symptoms

I have launched the game under many versions of Proton and GE Proton. There is a light purple background and a "Typhoon" logo appears in white, followed by nothing on the screen except the light purple background.

Reproduction

Launch the game, watch the Typhoon logo appear, then see light purple screen.

There's an issue with this game on the steam deck. Basically you play 20% of the game without problems and then the videos break. I'm guessing this is media foundation compatibility issue, and the videos are playing in the beginning due to codec caching. But the game is not fully playable on steam deck (although marked as verified), not only the videos break but the game freezes too.

The issue is also reported here https://steamcommunity.com/app/973810/discussions/0/3412054783679222544/

Hello @vaslabs, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the game freeze, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)

I will do , for now I'm using the GE fork which works with the videos but I need a dock because using the desktop without a mouse and a keyboard is a pain

With Proton 7.0-5 (and previous version), JttSP shows 3 problems:

  • a serious issue with maneuverability, where most of the times, when you try to start running, e.g. to take a leap off a ledge, the movement will switch back to walking within a few milliseconds. It usually takes several attempts (additionally involving quick alternated sidestepping left/right, "wriggling" forwards, as you press running and forward), to enter a steady running mode. It seems like "uneven" floor areas, as well as grass, flowers and the likes, will have a negative impact in this regard. Needless to say, this is bound to gravely affect the playability and fun factor of the game, causing lots of untimely "accidents" and deaths.

  • the terminal on which you get incoming new messages and videos will only play a few seconds of each sound record, abruptly stopping playback (same goes for e. g. the "Grob" dispenser inside the ship). Also, video transmissions are not displayed at all, only some short, ominous sounds are played. Having not played JttSP in its native environment, Windows, I cannot tell, if it's an actual bug, or supposed to be some "fun" aspect of the game, but I'd rather think of the first assumption being true.

  • when getting in heavy action and complex rendering situations, the engine tends to enter a mode of graphical "stuttering" or choppiness, destroying any fluid scenery rendering as you move the mouse looking around. Only terminating and restarting the game will reset this effect.

Anything new on the problem, especially movement/mouse and render micro-stuttering after prolonged game play?

With Proton 9.0-1 the jerky sprint problem still remains - as it turned out, it seems to be primarily connected to mouse handling issues. After switching from mouse button 4 as 'RUN' mapping to keyboard button 'UP', the jerkiness/failure of triggering and maintaining the run mode is vastly mitigated.

Still, its a considerable problem having to change common keyset habits for basic functionality, especially, when many functions need to be mapped to buttons in a meaningful way, i. e. one that'll work for personalized habits or abilities.

To me, this is only a workaround, that works not all too well and not provides the best/used possible control over the avatar.
