Debian sid
Linux 4.17.17
CPU i7-6700
GPU GTX 1060@6GB
Nvidia 396.51
Proton 3.7-4
Vive pro

Played a few minutes.

Issues encountered:

  • Audio does not want to go through the headset. Had to disable all other sinks in pulseaudio (using pavucontrol). If redirected post-start to headset, sound is very distorted.
  • FPSs are low unless dynamic resolution is enabled, but then resolution is noticeably lower than on windows on same machine

Debian Testing
Linux 4.17.0
Ryzen 5 1600
AMD HD 7950
Mesa 18.1.6

The audio is very, very choppy and a bit slowed down, which makes the game unplayable since you can't really listen to the dialogs.

The fps seemed pretty good, but I did not go far since it was unplayable sound-wise.

EDIT: Somehow, the sound was ok yesterday when I tried again, which made the game very playable. I did not change anything apart the usual Debian testing updates. Also, I rebooted.

Skyrim is loading fine into the main menu, but after choosing a new game, it's stuck in a loading screen

SKSE is a "Skyrim Skript Extender" that has a VR version, SKSE VR: http://skse.silverlock.org/
SKSE works by DLL injection. It is needed by many scripts and add-ons, because for VR specifically it increases quality of life a lot.

This is what happens with SKSE VR for Skyrim VR: It seems it is unable to find a gap in memory to inject itself into the game. From skse.log:

SKSEVR runtime: initialize (version = 2.0.11 010400F1 01D64866E6D5F2FA, os = 6.1 (7601))
imagebase = 0000000140000000
reloc mgr imagebase = 0000000140000000
couldn't allocate trampoline, no free space before image
couldn't create codegen buffer. this is fatal. skipping remainder of init process.

I emailed the developer of SKSE VR and he said that:
"This is a WINE/proton issue. Either there are no gaps in memory before the image base, or VirtualQuery is not implemented correctly."

I read the comments on this thread and it's said that this problem was introduced in Wine 4.16, but I reverted to Proton 4.11-13 (which is before wine's 4.16 changes have been integrated) and skse still fails to load with the same message. Also tried 4.2-9 but this way the game does not start.

Any advice on what to do to get SKSE VR working? I wonder if this patch in proton will help? https://github.com/hdmap/wine-hackery/tree/master/f4se

I've created my own Proton Build that allows SKSE VR to work, documented here with a screenshot of VRIK running: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/4456

Anyone else getting corrupted save games with proton 5.13?

Recently purchased; game doesn't load with proton experimental as of today. Brief flash of blank square shaped window then it disappears.

Hello @bradgy, what version of SteamVR are you trying to use with the game? We know that the linux_1.14 legacy branch of SteamVR does not work with Proton 6.3 and newer.

Also, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Ah, my bad. I'm sorry, I assumed all that would be included in the proton log.

I was accidentally on the stable SteamVR (ie no beta branch active) as I'd just reinstalled my OS. I just changed to the SteamVR[beta] and saw the same failing to load behaviour.
