Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

when trying out the pre-release demo of Cardfight Vanguard Dear Days, some rendering issues can be fixed using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 as a parameter on start however that only works in desktop mode, in game mode the game doesnt even really start.

with the previous bug fixed I am gonna move the new one up so comment scrolling isnt needed.

now whenever you have to type something the game will crash if you do type something, or display a black/white checkerboard pattern if you just press enter

Steps for reproducing this issue:

1. get a game that needs PROTON_USE_WINED3D to properly render some stuff (e.g. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1881420/Cardfight_Vanguard_Dear_Days/ )
2. see it working in desktop mode
3. see it not start in game mode

get to a place where you need to enter things (e.g. card search)

a) press a letter key -> crash

Hello @My1, while sometimes useful for troubleshooting, the PROTON_USE_WINED3D runtime option is not considered to be supported.

That said, we're tracking issues with games run with Proton in the Proton issue tracker. Please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, can you share some screenshots of the game misrendering?

okay I read about other people having the same issue, as in running wined3d not working in game mode, so I thought this is a steam os thing as it works fine in desktop mode.

There are Issues with text input prompts.
If you enter anything the game crashes, if you dont and just press enter, a huge black/white checkerboard pattern covers everything.

Symptoms:
When trying to use the keyboard to join online matches or search for cards the game crashes, this makes it impossible to play online modes and makes deck building extremely annoying.

Reproduction:

  1. Launch the game with any proton version
  2. Navigate to any menu that invokes the keyboard
  3. Press any key
  4. Game crashes

When you try to go into the search bar/change deck name, as soon as you try to type, the game crashes
