Hello @legluondunet, it might be interesting to test if setting the game's launch options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% has an effect.

Hello @kisak-valve , like you asked I launched this game with this command:
PROTON_LOG=1 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
and Proton experimental.

This time I obtained a black screen and I could hear music in background.
I can only see the cursor (an egg) on a black windows.
But nothing more, I can not go back to my desktop or Steam, no overlay available, all I can do is to open a virtual terminal and reboot my computer.

Thank you for the report.
I've done a bit of testing and i think dxvk is involved in this problem so I've gone ahead and made a upstream issue https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/3128

Hello, issue still present, tested with Proton experimental today's version.

Finally found a workaround to play this game with recent Proton versions without crash:

  • use dgVoodoo2: copy MS/x86/D3D9.dll to main game folder
During my tests, I did not need to override D3D9.

One strange issue: If I use D3D9 from dgVoodoo2, I can not use keyboard, only controller.

You will find here a new log running this game with Proton Experimental.
Game launched, I have only a black window, no sound or music, no overlay.
I have to force exit (alt+f4) or use Steam close button.

Now, using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 with Proton Experimental, the game launched normally.
keyboard OK
Steam overlay OK
Everything seems fine with DXVK disabled.
