Can't run any games on Fedora 33

Hello, I've been unable to run any game on steam with proton.
So far, I've tryed Age of Empires 2 DE and Bad North, both crash silently 5 seconds after hitting PLAY.
Im on Fedora 33 Kernel 5.17.12-100.fc34.x86_64, the SteamLibrary folder is located in a EXT4 partition on an external USB HDD.
Steam Package: steam.i686 1.0.0.74-2.fc34 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
The log files show the same error for both games using Experimental and 7.0-5

Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specified file.

The mentioned file .../files/lib64/wine/x86_64-unix/steam.exe.so has all the permissions for my user.

You might want to consider upgrading to a supported version of Fedora. Support for Fedora 33 ended a year ago. It's possible that you need more recent GPU drivers in order to use the latest versions of Proton. Alternatively, you could try using an older version of Proton.

For anyone looking this up, the error
wine: failed to start L"c:\\windows\\system32\\steam.exe"
Can also appear if your winepefix folder is copyed over from a other pc or if you did a fresh install but have steam on a other hard drive.
So the solution for me was to back up the save files in the prefix.
Then i deleted the prefix and started the game.
Now it runs fin so I close it and restore the save data.
