Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Walkabout Mini Golf
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1408230

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Rendering position/placement for one eye is incorrect when using any SteamVR resolution above 100% for Walkabout Mini Golf. Anything below or equal to 100% resolution works as intended.

Reproduction

  1. Set SteamVR resolution to 150% (default for this GPU) for Valve Index
  2. Launch Walkabout VR
  3. See that right eye position/rendering is misplaced
  4. Lower SteamVR resolution to 100% and open/close SteamVR dashboard twice to get it to trigger the resolution change
  5. Game looks normal again
  6. Switching back to anything above 100% and toggling SteamVR dashboard twice to reload the resolution change will cause the eye rendering to be wrong in the right eye again

Besides this issue, the game runs flawlessly.

Same happens here with a rx 6800XT

Same here. Also noticed the same issue with Egression (appid 1384940). They both seem to be using Unity as a game engine.

I also have this crossed-eyes problem on Walkabout Mini Golf with the HTC Vive headset. It defaults to 100% for the Resolution Multiplier, but only when I reduced it 84% (1604x1780) or lower in the Per-Application Video Settings did it fix the problem.

For what it's worth:

Same here, just bought the game and using it via ALVR/Quest3.
Tried with both Proton 8.05 and 9.03.

I've got the same issue. Quest 2 using ALVR wired. I've tried experimental, hotfix and 9.0-4 all with the same eye issue but running normally apart from that. I've seen some mention trying proton version 8.0-3, I've not tried that yet but will do and I'll report back.

I did notice that when I went into steams video setting in VR, it listed all the applications I could change video settings but it seems like the video settings profile that this game uses is called "wineopenxr test instance".

Meanwhile, all the games that don't have this issue, their video settings have the profile name set the same as the actual name of the game.

EDIT: 8.0-3 and 2 isn't changing anything

I'm not sure if this is a proton issue. I just used WiVRn to play the game and the bug wasn't there. I was still running the game through steam (so still using proton) but with WiVRn you skip out SteamVR that you have to use with ALVR.

I did a re-test with SteamVR + Steamlink recent Beta improvement.

GPU: 9070 XT
VR: Quest 3S
Proton: 9.0-4

  1. Your post about resolution still applies and was really helpful. (only game in my catalogue where i had this issue so far)
  2. I use WiVRn also and works great except for controller motion being a bit more janky compared to SteamVR/Steamlink or ALVR.
