Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1776380
    steam-1776380.log

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

The in-game shader compilation routine does not run correctly. The section where it normally compiles shaders and displays a progress bar is skipped.

Reproduction

Launch the game and enter the settings from the menu. Within the list of graphics options, at the bottom there is an option to compile shaders. After enabling this option and backing out to the main menu, it should take you to a screen where shaders are compiled but it is instead skipped and you are returned to the main menu.

Currently game is not starting at all for me. Pressing "play" on steam turns into starting and soon after returns to "play" without starting.

In the Proton log there is following line:

Unhandled exception: unimplemented function amd_ags_x64.dll.agsDriverExtensionsDX11_SetMaxAsyncCompileThreadCount called in 64-bit code (0x006fffffc1cf07).

This is with Proton 9.0 and experimental. Kernel 6.14, Mesa 25.0.2.
GPU: 0a:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Vega 10 XL/XT [Radeon RX Vega 56/64] (rev c3)

Now starts fine with Proton experimental version experimental-9.0-20250402

Nice.

Also Mesa 25.0.3 seems working.
