Compatibility Report

  • Game: Ghosts of Tabor Playtest
  • AppID: 2003160

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Launching the game while SteamVR is active makes it crash on launch.
It opens up and shows a black screen for a few seconds before crashing.
Launching the game while SteamVR is not running makes it seemingly boot correctly and progress to the loading screen, although that's not really helpful considering it's a VR-only game and you are just stuck standing around in the world.

Reproduction

  • Install the game, Proton and SteamVR.
  • Launch SteamVR.
  • Launch the game from within SteamVR.
  • Crash after a few seconds.

Notes

  • The game allows you to choose between SteamVR and OpenXR and both result in the same issue.
  • Launching the game from within the Steam library makes it not boot up at all, even though doing that works with any other VR game in my library. It has to be launched from within SteamVR.

That looks like it might be the issue here, considering it only crashes if SteamVR is running. Would you want me to provide any more information or logs? Any additional env vars, for example?

The playtest only lasts until the 15th, so I might as well try to get as much info as possible while it's still up.

I also have the exact same issue. Using Valve Index with Steam VR, and launching from Steam causes an instant crash.

Same issue with both index and quest 2 on airlink. Open mode boots it on the pc screen and not the headset. Both steam mode and Oculus mode are instant crash.

Solved! Had to uninstall Openxr toolkit. Many people installed it when Bonelab launched and the hands did not work.

Does it work at all anymore?

I have this running with ALVR on Meta Quest 2. However I get an validation error from EAC, that says that a EAC file is modified. Didn't get the complete error message (but if needed I can get it the next time I'm running the game).

Does anyone have a tip on how I can troubleshoot or even fix this issue?
