Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: The House in Fata Morgana
  • Steam AppID of the game: 303310

System Information

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

The game shows only a black screen when steam is launched using discrete graphics. I can hear the audio just fine. It runs fine with integrated AMD graphics.

Note: There are games like Sabbat of the Witch which run fine with Nvidia + Proton, so it doesn't seem to be a general Nvidia + Proton issue as I initially imagined

Reproduction

Launch the game when steam is using dedicated Nvidia Graphics.

Additional Information

I have also opened issue in Flatpak repo since I am not sure if this is a flatpak specific issue.

I'm playing on the Steam Deck in Japanese and am noticing that:

  1. Using Proton 8.0-5 causes the main menu prompts at the beginning of the game to show some garbage characters, likely due to SJIS encoding not being interpreted properly. Not a big issue and newer versions seem to fix this.
  2. Using any version above 8.x causes everything but a small fraction of the upper-left corner to become stuck when loading a save, making the game pretty much unplayable and forcing me to use 8.x.

Hello @sagehane, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy your system information from Steam (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and the contents of Steam Runtime Diagnostics from Steam (Steam -> Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics) and put them in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

So, I made a log for Proton Experimental where I played the game up until the graphical glitch and quit the game forcibly. https://gist.github.com/sagehane/16fa08b6600db535a6d4caaf7f0ef73a

Hope this helps, though I'd be more than happy to supplement it with more details. Logs were created on the Steam Deck, though I since confirmed that the issue reproduces on my desktop running NixOS using the Flatpak version of Steam.

the issue with the save/load dialog should be improved with proton 10
