Compatibility Report

 • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX
 • Steam AppID of the game: 1716120

System Information

I confirm:

 • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
 • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

This report pertains to the Launcher that starts up, not the games themselves.

Using "Proton 8.0-1" compatibility and launching the game, going into the Keyboard & Video Resolution options window from the launcher pops up an error and fails out, dropping back to the Launcher:

"Initialization of DirectX failed. A device could not be found (-2113929215)"

This options window is the only known way to toggle Fullscreen mode, video resolution, and change controller/input settings.

Reproduction

Launch game using Proton 8.0-1
In launcher:

 • Choose Options
 • Choose Keyboard/Resolution Settings
 • That will launch what seems to be another program titled "MonsterRancher 1&2 DX" Startup Settings
 • You will see the error message about DirectX
 • Options window then shuts down and drops back to the launcher

Workaround

Reverting back to "Proton 7.0-6" resolves this specific issue.

Hello @robotjunkyard, noted in a couple places like https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/releases/tag/proton-8.0-1c and https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Changelog, Proton 8.0 requires Vulkan 1.3 capable video driver. The NVIDIA 470 series video driver is too old to provide that. Please update your video driver and retest.

@kisak-valve After updating to nvidia 530 driver, I can now enter the Keyboard/Video Resolution Options dialog without a problem.
