@kisak-valve I saw some changes in video playback on today's Proton Experimental changelog. Soulstice videos are now playing nice too! (So maybe you can add it too to the changelog)

Haven't finished it yet, but it was the only issue I had with it, maybe it can be tested for Deck verification.

@alosarjos Thank you for letting us know! I will pass this along to the deck verification team :)

Videos do not play in 8.0. Only a black box where the video should be.
log running proton 8-0 unstripped debug

Running the game with generated debug script displays:
winegstreamer: failed to create h264parse, are 64-bit GStreamer "base" plugins installed?
when attempting to view a video in either menu. This is also found in the log.
Symlinking /usr/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/libgstvideoparsersbad.so to ../Proton 8.0/dist/lib64/gstreamer-1.0/ removes the exception but videos still do not play.

In Experimental (and GE 8-22) the videos do play, but the game eventually crashes if you watch them.
log running experimental unstripped debug

The following behaviour is reproducible:
Start the game and load a level; game runs perfectly with stable average framerate and consistent frame times.
Open the "Help" or "Skills" menu, both of which display videos.
Once a video starts playing, and Electra Media Player thread is created, frame times become wildly inconsistent (but in a consistent way; i.e. the frame time graph repeats the same pattern) while average (capped) framerate stays stable.
When you exit the menu, the frame time issue persists until the game is restarted or crashes.

This happens regardless of in-game graphical settings (I tested them individually but not in every combination).

Sometimes the frame time issues are solved by viewing a video again and closing the skill menu but, the crash is inevitable.

Note: No version of proton will display the videos when run through the debugger. I ran it through steam when testing changes.

This is issue seems very similar to #6657 another UE4 game which also crashes on menu videos.

I would be happy to keep trying but I feel I am at the end of my current knowledge.

Seeing similar issues atm with experimental proton.
Videos will play for some time, but the crash will eventually happen.

Error message is complaining about assertion fail in C++ runtime.
"!status && vkEndCommandBuffer"

It's not exactly the same as reported above, but i will assume it's related.
And it's been a year since last update so experimental proton has obviously received a lot of updates since then.

Would be great to see some movement on this issue.
Let me know if i can assist.
