Symptoms

When creating an online game on the Steam Deck (Proton) and being joined by a Windows player, a few seconds after the game crash for the Steam Deck (Proton) player and the Windows player gets disconnected.

The game is made with Unity, it's P2P connections using Steamworks SDK sockets (through Facepunch.Steamworks).
The problem seems similar to Turbo Sliders Unlimited's issue.

Reproduction

  1. Start Ship of Fools (on a Steam Deck)
  2. Go to Online -> Create a new game. (The lobby gets created.)
  3. Invite another (Windows) player using the button indicated at the bottom right of the screen. (The connection is established.)
  4. Try to choose both of your characters and start the game, the game may crash at any point from their, usually within 10 seconds after the connection was established.

This should be fixed with the just updated Experimental ([bleeding-edge] Beta branch).

Thanks @gofman! I can confirm it's working now 😄

@kisak-valve I was wondering, what is the usual (ballpark) integration time for such fixes before it hits the Proton Experimental default branch and the Proton Stable default branch?

Ggofman 2023-08-28 github

Experimental default branch releases are usually made weekly or so, this change should be in the next one unless some last minute regressions are found.

PS also thanks for reporting with clear repro steps and confirming.
