The game works on proton 7 but not in anything newer. I'm a bit confused by this one because I THINK I had previously launched the game with proton 8.

Hello @simifor, your Proton log point towards a dsound.dll related access violation. Can you give the test build mentioned at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2994#issuecomment-1718399142 a try and see if that helps? (Instructions at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2994#issuecomment-1718037526)

The game works with that build.

@simifor The fix is now in Proton - Experimental. Please let us know if you still see the silent crash there :)

Unfortunately, I'll be away for several days so I won't be able to test soon. I might not even be able to reproduce the issue anymore as I think my problem surfaces after adding a virtual surround sink to pipewire, which I later removed as I wasn't using it

Ssimifor 2023-10-14 github

Well, never mind what I said about not being able to reproduce the issue anymore, as it's still present in 8.0 without the aforementioned surround sink. The good news is that I can verify that proton experimental does indeed fix the issue and allows the game to launch.
