Ever since proton 8 i had the issue that games would not show. They start and become active, sound is playing and in some cases the cursor changes to the game cursor, but no screen. I tried a lot of different versions from valve and both GE versions but always the same result. Very rarely it would show something in a wrong resolution usually the size of just a stamp in the upper left corner, but that's only about 1 in 100 runs and next run it would just give no screen again.
In some games, like Diablo IV, you can alt-enter to get into windowed mode, but going back either by alt-enter again or by using the games graphic options will give no screen again.
Applications that don't go fullscreen, like battle.net launcher, start just fine.
The problem appears to be my X zaphodhead setup. I have 2 monitors and my TV connected and use it to have my TV on it's own X server. If i disable zaphodhead it works like it should which is very ironic as one of the main reasons i have my TV on a seperate X server is to not have it interfere in anyway with the X server running on my monitors. I have this setup for over a decade and never had any issues with it and been using wine/proton to run games for years.
I was never able to find any useful logging until vkd3d-proton-2.10, which seems to log more by default.
It always starts with: vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_init: Creating swapchain (1920 x 1080), BufferCount = 3.
but when zaphodhead is used it will also log:
vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_ChangeProperties: Reallocating swapchain (1 x 32764), BufferCount = 3.
vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_ChangeProperties: Reallocating swapchain (1 x 32767), BufferCount = 3.
vkd3d-proton:dxgi_vk_swap_chain_ChangeProperties: Reallocating swapchain (1920 x 1080), BufferCount = 3.
And even tho it goes back to the right resolution in the end, it will not show screen.
I tried playing around with X settings leftof/rightof, relative, absolute, etc. and this did result in getting other swapchain resolution numbers (even got something like 38000 x 32760), i was not able to get it to work stable. Strange that while testing settings and restarting X sometimes i had the first run work, then the next run only give grey screen or a resolution that stretched vertically (even tho i only use horizontal multi-monitor setups), and runs after that just give no screen again.
Also i recently upgraded from RX 5700 to RX 6750XT but as expected no change, as i was already quite sure the 5700 should support everything including vulkan 1.3.
