Symptoms

For context on what the Hollow Area is in order to explain the issue: when you start a new game, the game places you in a tutorial in this place and herds you a bit until it guides you out of it. Once it does, you'd have found a place called "the Administration Area" that you can go back to whenever you like. This is where the issue lies: whenever you go this location, which is the link between two halves of the game, a task menu (automatically) appears to remind you of available goals. However, this menu does not close by normal means as it should: it forces the player to open and close the Steam overlay, of all things (both on Desktop and the Steam Deck), in order to progress. Something about this really rubs me as a bug because there's no reason a non-game function should be what prevents normal input events from closing this menu and continuing to play the game.

That aside, Vsync also seems to be horrendous (introduces screen tearing rather than eliminates it) but I'm not sure if that's just the game, Proton, DXVK, or the Nvidia driver.

Reproduction

  1. Start a new game
  2. Do the tutorial
  3. Go to the game's town square
  4. Interact with a small monument in the center to go back to the Hollow Area
