steam-270370_crashboot.log (log given from proton 8.0-4 when the game crashes on boot) steam-270370.log (log given by Proton Experimental when trying to create an AI Skirmish lobby.)
Symptoms
The game itself works fine for the most part however a major part of the game-the multiplayer-does not work at all. All of the online features seem to be bugged/broken.
For example, the global chat and player profile picture are broken or do not display, and the game fails to fetch any news.
Trying to create an online game will simply get stuck on "Creating Steam Lobby..." forever.
These features do work on Windows.
Additionally, the game will crash on boot sometimes, though it's inconsistent. It seems to happen more often on Proton 8.0-4 than Experimental though.
Reproduction
[For Online features] Open the game, go to the "Offline section", and try to start an AI Skirmish. (It's in the offline section, but it tries to start a lobby just like the online options do, you could also try those and they would probably give a similar result.) It will get stuck on "Creating Steam Lobby..." The global chat and other online features will also likely be broken. (The global chat will read as only 1 person being online).
[For Crashing on boot] Simply try to open the game and skip the opening cinematic by pressing any button.
