I already got an update to this, although I'm not sure if the game's behavior changed because I moved it from my HDD to my SSD (i.e. shorter loading times), or due to the game's recent update to version 0.65. Waiting for a couple of minutes while the screen is black now doesn't produce the "ReignofDwarf is not responding" popup anymore unless I tab out (it made no difference before), I can now get into the game's main menu. The intro animation is essentially a slide show, but the audio is clear right away.
Next issue, though: EAC. When I try to connect to any server, I get the error message "Anti-cheat client protection not active (NullClient) (4)" in the game. To get some more information, I started up a server myself and tried to connect, which gave the output that my client was disconnected immediately because "there is no EasyAntiCheat session or developer session started with this player". The developers stated on their Discord that they aren't actively blocking out Linux users, but could it be that they haven't set the version of EAC that they're using to allow running the game with Proton?
At any rate, here's another log I took. Before I took it, I deleted the compatdata folder, and in the game, I immediately tried to connect to my server and quit the game after the connection had failed.

EDIT: Using this comment for another update now. I asked the developers on their Discord server whether they enabled Proton support in their EAC, and it seems they haven't. But, they said they would be looking into enabling it.
I was informed today that the developers activated the Linux module in the game's EAC setup. Using Proton 8.0-4, I am now able to join servers, harvest and build things, generally interact with the in-game world, and host a server for myself with the game's Dedicated Server software. Since I didn't run across anyone else in the game, I can't tell yet whether the voice chat works, if player interactions work as intended, and whether others can join servers that you host.
It was a smooth experience so far, with two exceptions: The crash on startup if you tab out after the Made With Unity screen before the game's main menu has finished loading still occurs. Also, while that might just be due to my computer and because the developers are still in the process of optimizing the game, I had to lower the graphics settings a bunch to get a playable framerate.
While more testing will need to be done to be sure, it looks like a really good start overall.

Upon launching the game, a window with the game's logo briefly shows up to load game data (it's usually done within less than a second), then the actual fullscreen game window appears. After the Made With Unity splash screen, the screen turns black, the cursor graphic changes to the game's custom cursor, but the screen remains black. No audio, no visuals, no response to any input I tried. If the Steam Overlay is enabled, the popup in the corner of the screen never disappears, but it doesn't work with Steam Overlay disabled either. Eventually, I get a popup informing me that "ReignofDwarf is not responding", giving me the option to force quit or wait.
Reproduction
Install the game and try to run it using Proton 8.0-4 or Experimental. I haven't had the chance to test any other Proton versions.
