Symptoms

When starting the game with a Proton version that is not 4.11, for example Proton Experimental or Proton 8, after briefly opening a black window the game crashes.
Using Proton 4.11, the game launches and runs normally.

Reproduction

  • Try starting Road to Vostock Demo with default settings

or

  • Try starting Road to Vostock Demo with Proton Experimental or Proton 8.0

Hello @afeuerstein, there's several years of development between Proton 4.11 and Proton 8.0. Can you note the oldest Proton version that doesn't work with this game for you to narrow the time frame of the regression?

After some testing, I have discovered the following:

  • Proton 5.13 is the newest Proton version that can run the game normally on an empty wine prefix
  • Proton versions 7, 8 and Experimental are unable to start the game from an empty wine prefix as described above
  • When upgrading the game from an 5.13 prefix to a 7, 8 or Experimental prefix the game can only run the "scenes" that have been loaded in the 5.13 run (two scenes are available in the demo: main menu and one level)
  • Proton 6.3 does not work at all

I hope you can make sense from these observations.

Same problem with certain versions
My specs:
GPU: Radeon RX Vega 7
Video Driver: Mesa 23.1.9
Kernel: 6.6.8
Proton version: 8.0-4, 8.0-5 RC
the game crashes, but work fine with Proton GE 8-25 and Proton Experimental

I have retested with 8.0-4 and works, only keeps crashing with 8.0-5 RC

No issues on my end.
My specs:
OS: Linux Mint 21.3
GPU: Radeon RX 6800XT
Video Driver: Mesa 23.3.2 (Kisak PPA)
Kernel: 6.6.9 (Mainline)
Proton version: 8.0-4, 8.0-5 RC, experimental, experimental-bleeding-edge, GE-Proton8-25, GE-Proton-27

I had one crash when switching from Proton 8.0-4 to GE-Proton8-27, but it's not reproducible.
