Hello @robotjunkyard, a header only Proton log hints that something went wrong before the game itself had a chance to start.
If you completely close Steam, then run steam from a terminal, are there any hints in the terminal spew when you tell Steam to start the game. Also, what filesystem are you using with /srv/game/SteamLibrary?

steam-46550-Attempt4.log
/srv/game is an LV formatted as an XFS filesystem
/home is just regular ol' ext4
Attempt 1: same latest results as bug report
Attempt 2 (after moving game's install to homedir's SteamLibrary): It got a little further, showing the game's red-colored intro screen on top of a somewhat garbled-looking Steam, and once again seeing the game showing up in the desktop's taskbar. But, aside from that, it still froze without recognizing input in either the game nor the OS, and had to kill the steam process from the text console.
Attempt 3 (changing nothing at all after Attempt 2): No intro screen at all, just like the subsequent attempts after the first one prior to this bug report. Had to kill steam from text console.
Attempt 4 (nothing changed from Attempts 2 and 3, but I forgot to copy steam's terminal output in Attempt 3): It goes to a full black screen showing the FPS counter. But it still froze and had to kill steam from console
Attempt 4 yielded a Proton log full of info and not just headers (attempt 2 did not).
*(when I say text console, I mean the actual console via CTRL-ALT-Fn keys, not a terminal emulator within X)
Okay, there's an additional interesting thing I noticed which I hadn't tried before... this time without hastily killing any processes:
I'm able to gradually shift the game's mouse cursor around the intro screen this way. It's still completely unplayable, but I wonder if this might help at all.
I made a patched version of proton that apply the Syberia fix to Post Mortem. If you want to test it, you can find a precompiled build here.
To test it, unpack the archive in the compatibilitytools.d directory inside your steam directory (e.g. ~/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d) and set it as steam runtime for Post Mortem
The game won't start for me at all. I keep getting an error, telling me the sound card is unavailable.
Tried different proton versions, starting from Proton 3.7-8 up to the latest version.
Here's my log output, tried with proton experimental.

Symptoms and Reproduction
On the first attempt, it ran the game -- but it only showed the game in the taskbar, not the game itself. The mouse cursor would disappear in the region of the desktop where the window WOULD be. Clicking on the game's taskbar button yielded no results, clicking in the area where its window would have been also did nothing. Mouse clicks also had no effect on Steam or anywhere else on the desktop -- I ultimately had to do a hard kill of the window subsystem (CTRL-ALT-Backspace) to be able to use the computer again.
Subsequent attempts -- not even the above happens. It says "Running" in Steam but it never gets to the part where it attempts to open the game's introductory window.
Cycled through other prior version of Proton, including Experimental. Also tried deleting and re-installing the game, no difference.
I have reason to believe this game used to run OK on Proton in the past, because in the game's forum in a topic about alt-tab crashing the game in a modern Windows system, someone wrote a post on Jan 8 2020 stating that in his experience, Proton runs this game better than Windows 10 does.
