Symptoms

The game ran fine before, but then I updated my system (which includes Nvidia 550.76 drivers and Linux 6.8.7) and now the game completely freezes when I fullscreen it. It runs fine when in windowed

I have previously tried to downgrade Nvidia drivers with very glitchy results so I'm not trusting that process this time, but I did downgrade Hyprland to a known-working version with the same result so I don't think this is a Hyprland issue.

I'm using Hyprland which only runs Wayland

Reproduction

1: Launch Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl on latest Nvidia drivers under Wayland
2: Fullscreen the game

It turns out that this bug is likely due to allow_tearing option on Hyprland, maybe an Nvidia driver update that borked the feature.
Setting the option to false lets me play the game, just with forced Vsync.

Nothing extracted yet.
