@AwesamLinux The game was updated, and among other changes switched the video codecs used by the game. I tested on desktop and deck and the videos play fine.
Can confirm that the game is playable after the games update and the videos are working now. However the game crashes randomly after a while of gameplay.
So far I have experienced crashes with:
experimental-bleeding-edge-9.0
proton-6.3-8f
proton-9.0-1
Including a log of two gameplay sessions where it crashed:
steam-1864680-crashes.zip
I noticed that on Proton 9 and Experimental the log mentions "VK_ERROR_MEMORY_MAP_FAILED" before it crashes.
What seems to accelerate the rate of the crashes is traversing between indoors/outdoors/undersea/caves. Basically any scenario where the game loads a new scene. So if one does just go about exploring in the open in the same area, one can go like an hour before getting a crash.
Despite this one can still play the game, assuming one has saved the game, loads the save and just continues.
I have now also tested with stable Mesa 24.0.8 and current Mesa Git, unfortunately there was no difference. The random crashes occur regardless, including a log reproducing the issue with Mesa 24.0.8 driver:

Symptoms
Game crashes when starting new game from main menu (sometimes you can see a Unity engine crash report window pop up for a couple of seconds).
With older version proton-6.3-8f the game does not crash, but the intro video does not work (it displays a test screen/placeholder)
Logs of all these attempts:
steam-1864680-.zip
Reproduction
Launch the game, and start new game from the main menu.
