Is it CEG DRM indeed? I've compared .exe and .dll files from my Steam version of the game and a cracked one with md5sum, and they all are the same. But the latter works fine in Linux, while the former doesn't.
On the other hand, I've replaced the original .exe files of The Darkness II and FEAR 3, and I now can play them and even unlock the achievements.
When will gamedevs learn that DRM is bad and hurts legitimate users only?
The game launches and is playable now with recent Proton Experimental.
The only minor issue that remains is that the game launches minimized/in the background, so have to manually bring it up through the taskbar or alt+tab.
@AwesamLinux same as AvP and Colonial Marines, it starts in full for me. Played through some scenes, seems okay.
Folks, this game is crashing on launch with Proton 10.0 Beta (works fine with 9.0-4).

@ranplayer Thank you for the report! In our testing, this is a regression specifically with deleting the prefix and then launching the game on 10.0-x. We are investigating the issue we found, but in order to confirm you are running into the same problem -- could you try completely uninstalling and then reinstalling the game and launching directly on Proton 10? If this fixes your launch failure, that would confirm that we are on the right track :)

@ranplayer FWIW - we figured out the problem ... the game uses CEG, and CEG doesn't always interact gracefully with Proton upgrades/downgrades when the prefix is deleted at the wrong time. In the future, failures should be fixed by just verifying the integrity of the game files - I would expect one file to be re-downloaded and that should fix the issue :)

The game for first look looks like it is working till you get into the main menu, the mouse barly moves and it feels like it can´t go to the right. It's moving very slow. Proton 10.0-3 has a bug, proton 9.0-4 is working fine for this game.

Hello @MichelN86, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)
