Yup, that did it. Thank you!
It would be nice if there was an option to reset steamplay compatdata for a prefix, as even deleting the folder doesnt fix it because steam memorizes the last step that was performed on the prefix.
I know, if you run WINEPREFIX="/path/to/steam/pfx/" winetricks you can open the wineprefix in that UI frontend and delete all data in the wineprefix.
Alternatively, reinstalling the game (which is doable on smaller titles, but annoying on larger ones without a PfSense steamcache router) resets the pfx as well.

Yeah, I agree with this.
I am also having another issue with Doom 2016.
The game works, but now I am getting black textures on every surface:

I did a few google searches and it may be an issue with the Nvidia 396.54 drivers, as well as the 390.77 drivers. This issue is not related to the first one in this thread.
I think Nvidia's on getting a new driver version out, but I have AMD hardware so I don't know.

Looking at Nvidia's Linux driver list, they did release new long term drivers two days ago under the 390 branch. But I am using the short term 396.54 drivers that were release five days ago or so.

Maybe I will switch over to 390.87 to see what happens.

I just wanted to update this. Swapping the drivers did nothing for me. However I found a work around to this issue...

I discovered that flipping the antialias settings from SMAA (1TX) to SMAA solved the black texture issue. I'm running a pretty old GTX 660, so you can see that the performance is not so good anyway. But for anyone having this issue. I suggest flipping the AA settings.

Hello, I originally made a post in this thread : https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/217
I'm not sure if it is a better idea to just make a new post on this subject, or stay with that one. So I'll just create a new thread.
I am having the same issue seen in the thread above. I try to run the game and it goes to a black screen with no sound.
I've tried launching the game with different settings like +r_renderAPI 1 and +r_renderAPI 0 as well as the no intro video command. Nothing worked.
I tried the Winetricks Xinput suggestion listed here:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/217#issuecomment-415440649
And no luck either.
But, to be honest, I have no idea how to install vcrun2015 using Winetricks.
