Symptoms

Proton version of RCR:DX+ stopped working on the Steam Deck, while the Native version runs with no issues.
Windows/Proton version is better maintained, with a few additional features. That's why I want to run it.
Keeps crashing with every version of Proton I try running it with, including GE.
It's a 32-bit app, just so you know in advance.
Also tried it with protontricks, still no luck.

Reproduction

Try running it through Proton instead of Natively on the Steam Deck, and it will instantly crash as soon as it launches.

P.S.
Discussed over on Discord, apparently at the forefront of this is this issue in the logs:

XXXXX.XXX:XXXX:XXXX:err:steamclient:create_win_interface Don't recognize interface name: STEAMUSERSTATS_INTERFACE_VERSION013

I'm not sure exactly what it entails. I've checked my own log as well.

I tried it out on my oled deck, on experimental or 9.0-4, the game silently crashes out without any warning after a few seconds after launch. If i try older versions, the game will toss up a popup saying that steam needs to be on in order for the game to work and the game will close as soon as I dismiss the popup

Finally fixed with the latest experimental, whatever it was. Tested it out a few times.
Even got a couple of screenshots out of it for comparison. One Native, and two Proton:
