Hello, hello, first time here and I hope I am doing this right. So, I have been experiencing this issue with Steam Play (Proton) where after around 30 minutes of gameplay, my framerate would stutter about and make it nigh impossible to aim. I thought it was an issue with frame pacing or some kind of frame desync, but after a lot of testing I discovered this issue appears when you move the mouse. This appears in most games I've tested aside from two (VR Chat and Final Fantasy XI Ultimate Seekers Collector's Edition). The framerate would tank by around 50% when moving the mouse on any scene. However, using the controller to move pointers/cameras will not see this issue appear.
For me, this is easily reproducible:
-Play a game for around 30 minutes
-After 30 minutes, moving the mouse will cause the framerate to tank by 50% while it is being moved
-Framerate effects seem to be lessened in windowed mode, but only a teeny bit. In Full screen, when the effects appear, it is very jittery, as if the frames are desynced (but knowing it is the mouse pointer that is the issue, it could be that the mouse is jittering rapidly between places between frames? Not sure.)
I have not noticed anything that could signify a memory leak, as RAM use remains consistent.
One thing I have not tried yet is playing a game purely with the controller for 30 minutes and then seeing if the issue appears (which I will do today!)
Tested it on multiple desktops (Gnome, XFCE) and the issue persists; doesn't seem to be desktop related.
My system specs:
AMD Ryzen 5800X
32 GB RAM
Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Kernel: 6.8.0-51-generic #52-Ubuntu
