I experience an issue with games made with the Unity Engine after they run for a while (1-2 hours):
After this time they suddenly begin to stutter whenever any mouse or keyboard input is present (such as mouse movement, clicking, pressing keyboard buttons down or lifting them up) is present. These stutters make frametimes go from usual ~7ms to about ~60ms and only occur once every 30 frames or so, making for a very unpleasant and nauseating experience.
Affected Proton versions: Every Proton version that could run the games I tested (all the way to Experimental)
I tested this with ULTRAKILL, Lethal Company, Limbus Company, Outer Wilds, Bloons TD 6 and Content Warning. All of these games have in common that they use the Unity Engine. Furthermore I have not experienced this issue in any game that was not made with the Unity Engine.
I am on Wayland, with the latest stable Nvidia drivers and latest Linux kernel. I can't spot anything that would be related to this inside journalctl or Proton logs.
I can also confirm that this is not an issue with RAM, VRAM, CPU or GPU. In fact, when the stuttering happens, my GPU and CPU usage go down, leading me to believe that maybe something in Unity's Input system is acting up, but I can't think of a reason why it only happens after 1+ hours of running the game.
