Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: DayZ, Sea of Thieves, Red Dead Redemption 2, others
  • Steam AppID of the game:
    DayZ: appId 221100
    Sea of Thieves: appId 1172620
Red Dead Redemption 2: appId 1174180

System Information

  • GPU: AMD RX 9070 (this is why things aren't working, btw)

  • Video driver version:
    glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version"
OpenGL version string: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 24.2.8-1ubuntu1~24.10.1
    vulkaninfo | grep "VK_VERSION"
WARNING: [Loader Message] Code 0 : Layer VK_LAYER_MESA_device_select uses API version 1.3 which is older than the application specified API version of 1.4. May cause issues.

  • Kernel version:
    uname -r
    6.14.0-rc6joel
(I have tried the Generic 6.11 too)

  • Link to full system information report as Gist:
    https://gist.github.com/roadapathy/0922850546ee300ff997f67da2c8c6da

  • Proton version: Proton Experimental, Proton Bleeding Edge compiled by me.

I confirm:

  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [X ] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

I will have to edit and add this after because running the game will crash the GUI and I'll lose all of the information here.

Symptoms

These games will open in fullscreen but to a blank/black screen only, free moving curser for about 30-40 seconds, then the whole GUI resets back to the login screen.

HOWEVER, when I compiled the latest version of MESA and LibDRM, I was able to successfully play Sea of Thieves. I reinstalled Xubuntu 24.10 but I haven't yet compiled the latest MESA so with Xubuntu only libraries I get these results.

Reproduction

This all happened after installing the AMD RX 9070.

Hello @roadapathy, mesa 24.2.8 predates general support for this GPU. This is a video driver issue, not a Proton issue.

Yeah, like I mentioned above I used also the latest version of Mesa (25.1) and then the 24.2.8 version, and now again on the 25.1 version that I just freshly compiled. Everything is the same. Blank/Black screen. But probably this is a driver issue.
