Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Blue Prince
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1569580

System Information

  • GPU: Radeon RX 5600 XT
  • Video driver version: Mesa 25.0.4
  • Kernel version: 6.14.2
  • Link to full system information report as Gist: Gist
  • Proton version: 9.0-4

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  1. Game starts stuttering/dropping frames after being left open for a period (several minutes up to an hour) of time. Stuttering only noticeable when looking around or moving, seems fine (no noticeable stutter) while watching an animation.
  2. Game restored to windowed mode and gets resized when left open, idle, for several minutes. Window can't be resized, preventing certain menu interactions. Can't be resized without setting the resolution through graphics options. Note: using a tiling window manager (dwm) so the window becomes tiled when it is windowed (this is why it is resized).

Reproduction

  1. Launch game, click continue, play game for several minutes (may be an hour or a little longer, consistently occurs before 2 hours).
  2. Launch game, wait several minutes without interacting.

Additional Notes:

  • Other people have reported video playback of cutscenes not working. This has not been an issue for me, but is worth noting due to the format of reports in the issue tracker limiting the title for issues to game title + App ID i.e. we can't have multiple reports for the same game.

This seems to be happening across the board for me with Proton 10.
If I go into winecfg and disable the window manager from having control, it does appear to "work" though it doesn't work correctly but the behavior in each state suggests that the underlying game and the window manager are fighting to both change the window size/state.

Nothing extracted yet.
