Feature Request

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found another request for this feature.

  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available that
    contain this feature already.

Description

Proton 9, 10, and I believe experimental "introduced a change that sets dinput8.dll to prefer the native version" (similar request #8308) . As this allows mods that use that dll to load the mods as essentially native (same behavior as windows), rather than have to rely on doing so manually through wincfg or launch parameters of WINEDLLOVERRIDES.

Justification [optional]

This would allow for more mods to essentially load natively, exactly like how it is on windows if I am not mistaken. Would just make it so much more convenient, especially if we have the latest proton version able to load any and all kinds of mods for the average user.

Risks [optional]

Not honestly sure what the risks can be. Maybe the provided dll file from a mod could be corrupted and mess with something? I am honestly not familiar or smart enough to know what can happen as a result of this being implemented.

References [optional]

I found an issue pertaining to the original motivation for doing this for "dinput8.dll": https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/7974 and https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8308

Hello @Saigaiii, please list which games and mod frameworks would benefit from this.

Seems like Star Wars Jedi Knight Mysteries of the Sith and Dark Forces 2 need it for music playback to work properly

Hello @Saigaiii, please list which games and mod frameworks would benefit from this.

Shin Ryu Mod Manager needed both dinput8 and winmm set in order to properly load, at least for Like a Dragon Gaiden and Judgement. Potentially for other RGG games (Yakuza series, Judgement/Lost Judgment) though I have not modded the others to know for certain they all act the same.
