Symptoms

It appears that there are some rendering issues on the character sprites, specifically Hairs. It's most visible when climbing a ladder, but can be observed during regular combat as well (whenever the character is turning their back to the camera). Here is a screenshot of the problem:

Here is an example of how it should look like:

This doesn't seem to apply to all long-haired characters, but certainly a couple.

Reproduction

Make a new game.
Select one of the two characters from the screenshots above.
Do some regular attacks and/or climb up a ladder.

I've first encountered this issue 2 years ago. I made a report on protondb.
Issue could be observed on Steam Deck, Manjaro OS, PopOs and Nobara.

The resulting proton log is around 300mb for a single minute of gameplay.

@Yoshi72 While I can see the issue on linux with my amd card, I can also see it on windows. I asked someone with an nvidia card and they also had clipping hair on both linux and windows.

Is that working example from you? If not, do you have more information about the setup of the person that took it?

I've went ahead and got windows running again to check it out on my end. It seems you are correct: The issue also exist on Windows on my setup.
I could swear that it didn't on my old setup with an NVIDIA GPU. But unfortunately, I don't have access to that specific configuration anymore and it was almost 2 years ago. Maybe I am just misremembering something.

As for the screenshot in question, it's a random screenshot from a japanese guy off the Community Hub, which can be found here:

I also tried to downgrade it to an older version and see if it's a bug they introduced with some patch alter on (since the screenshot from the Community Hub is almost 4 years old), but at least on Linux, the issue still persist.

I would argue that it's safe to say that this is a bug within the game, rather than Proton. So I apologize for the lack of research on my end.

Edit: the 300mb proton log though still exist. Not sure if that means that there ARE problems there, or if it is something that occasionally happens with proton.

@Yoshi72 big logs aren't a concern on themselves, and that isn't all that big compared to some games. It appears that if you downgrade all the way down to version 1.2.5 of the game, the hair clipping improves a lot

Nothing extracted yet.
