Symptoms

Is still borked with the same error after 3-10 years:

Runtime Error "Failed to load plugin C:\users\steamuser\AppData\Local\Temp\capxxxx.tmp/31.csx (126)"

Any idea how to get past this?
Tried everything I could think of, and nothing works.

Reproduction

  1. Press Play in Steam.
  2. Get past the Launch window.
  3. Same error every time:
Runtime Error "Failed to load plugin C:\users\steamuser\AppData\Local\Temp\capxxxx.tmp/31.csx (126)"

Hello @SecularSteve, this is another example of https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657.

Happy to report that it did not help much.

Installed mfc42.dll using protontricks, tried launching the game again, and this time it just crashes immediately after the launch window upon start-up.
A black screen with white "Text" on the top-left, before it instantly crashes back to the menu after a quarter of a second.

Tried in both Gaming and Desktop mode.

P.S.
Thank you for the very quick response earlier. I did not expect that. Above all else thank you for your hard work.

This thing's been lingering here since July.
