Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Ziggy's Cosmic Adventures
  • Steam AppID of the game: 1501820

System Information

I confirm:

  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

  • Game starts, play well until the moment that you have to pass through an accelerator tunnel in space. When that happens it hangs.

Reproduction

  • Start the game
  • The entire starting the game, going through the tutorial and then experiencing the hang can be seen here. Obviously the hang is at the very end of the video: https://youtu.be/KjOiyMu8oXY -- this gameplay is using SteamVR beta 2.13.4 via steam link, Valve's official solution.

Different attempts

I haven't tested with different proton version (yet). But I have also tested using ALVR (with no sound that SteamVR beta current breaks ALVR's sound): https://youtu.be/Dyu5vdvStMc
I have moved the game from the HDD to my faster NVME after this, and tried again via Steam Link to ensure it's not a hard drive loading issue. It's this short gameplay here: https://youtu.be/BFNieJ2O1CM

proton logs

First one: for the attempt with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% via ALVR
Second one: for the attempt with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% via Steam Link and using the game on NVME
Third one: for the attempt with PROTON_LOG=+vrclient,+openxr,+file %command% via Steam Link and using the game on NVME. This resulted in an enomous file and I had to zip it.

Tested with Proton 10.0-beta2 and even GE-Proton10-17, same thing.

So I was able to test it with an old version of WiVRn (v25.6.1 with opencomposite) since it would crash with newer versions. It hang in the very same place. So it's not something due to the VR streaming software. It's something in proton.

Even now in Mesa 25.3.3 this issue is not resolved. It happens in the same place. Seems to be an issue with mesa drivers, not proton or the streaming software (WiVRn, ALVR, Steam Link).
