Feature Request

I confirm:

  • [ y ] that I haven't found another request for this feature.
  • [ y ] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available that
    contain this feature already.

Description The stupid wine system tray doesn't have a class, or title and thus cannot be controlled by window managers, i want it to just not exist

Justification [optional] wine uses the system tray because it isn't primarily for gaming, i have never had a game where i wanted the system tray

References [optional]

https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/2808 would fix it and make this mostly unneccessary, but given how slow that is...

Just because you don't need a tray icon in the game you're playing doesn't mean other games don't. Games that require a third-party launcher (e.g Ubisoft Launcher) deeply rely on the system tray to function.

Ask your DE or WM to fix the issue of tray, and don't complain about the system tray issue on Wine/Proton. It's just working as expected.

This is simply false and I want a per-game toggle, read this: https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/2808

Wine hasn't implemented the protocol properly and it's taking ages, and even if it did I would still want to be able to disable it, I will never want to use the tray for a video game, it wastes space that could be used for anything else

furthermore it's not necessary for the ubisoft launcher as evidenced by the fact you can close it and it still runs.

So not only is it not working as expected it's also disruptive even if it was.

Nothing extracted yet.
