You should take that up with EA. They deliberately prevent game launches if another process launches the EA app. That's on them, not on any Proton tools or systems.
Neither my kids, nor I, can play any EA games on our Steam Decks, or non-Windows machines. While it's clearly deliberate with EA, why is unknown/unconfirmed.
I mean, EVER? None of these games work anymore, likely because of this idiotic EA app. I paid for the stupid game, and all the other games I buy will start and work on this system.... so, why have you screwed over customers who purchase EA games?
You need a "it must work" policy. If EA doesn't just start making their games work, then dump them off Steam. I am sick of this demented clown show company ruining everything they touch.
Go complain to EA and ask for a refund on Steam.
@DiamondDoor I just tried need for speed most wanted, and it's launching fine with both proton 10 and experimental. When opening an issue, you should follow one of the templates to provide as much information as possible regarding what you're facing.

I'm not able to launch an EA game I own (BF4), haven't tried other titles. There seems to be an issue with the EA Launcher, that started occurring around a month ago (I've tried with many Proton versions & did purge the compatdata dir / gamefiles).

It's on Valve for not getting onto EA about this. I keep seeing people complain about this over and over again. It's disgusting and senseless. Pirates can play illegal games, but I cannot play a game I purchased?

Also, there is really no way to complain to EA. They don't really have an email I can complain about this to.

This should tell you all you need to know about this now Trump/Saudi-owned company, bought with borrowed billions who only cared about profit margins in the past and for the foreseeable future.
Some games will work, as @simifor has said above their NFS: Most Wanted runs under some conditions, which is something I will try, as none of the other games will run for me, so you should test other EA games to see what does and doesn't work.
No great loss to any of us if we never played an EA/Ubisoft game again until they get rid of their ridiculous launchers and apps they think will ever compete with Steam. Then we can all celebrate, because they should run without much intervention then.
You could describe exactly what you mean by "not working".
Does the EA App not launch at all? Does it launch but shows an error when launching the game? (And what is the content of the error message?)
@awsms battlefield 4 is working here, as @SuperSamus said, the more details the better, but adding to that it's a good idea to also upload proton logs by adding this to the game's launch parameters PROTON_LOG=1 %command%. For reference, I was using proton experimental, but if you already have an existing prefix you might want to try deleting it and see if that's enough before switching your proton version.
@DiamondDoor Also, generally speaking, if the game launches the EA launcher isn't to blame. Hard to say what your issue is without a proton log, but there's a chance you might be getting tripped by nvapi, try disabling it by changing the game's launch parameter to this: PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1
I didn't respond immediately due to vagueness of the initial information, but at this point it's clear that this issue report is more to vent frustration instead of something more productive. Please use a different medium to vent.
@DiamondDoor, you were already made aware that we use one issue report per game title and to use #6452 for any feedback related to Mirror's Edge Catalyst. Please use that compatibility report to continue pondering the current game's behavior with Proton.

For those of you wonder about system specs. I do not think they matter as this seems to be an issue for everyone. But here are my specs
This is for Mirror's Edge Catalyst
Linux MINT 22.2 Cinnamon 6.4.8
Kernal 6.14.0-33-generic
AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core Processor × 4
Memory 31.3 GiB
Hard Drive 2001.5 GB
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590] (I think mine is the 570 but I am not sure)
And for me, Mirror's Edge Catalyst (MEC) was starting, but then it would stall after the brightness adjustment screen and then stall and crash/stop running. Now it won't even start at all. But if I use older versions of Proton, then it will give me the EA app starting screen... but the app never starts. Using the latest version of Proton, it says the game is running, but it never shows up on screen.
But as I have said, everyone keeps having this issue with this garbage company and their garbage EA app. Everyone's experience will differ slightly, but the overall effect is the same, the games won't launch because the trash at EA thinks making games unplayable is good for business, because Valve won't crack down on this behavior... and frankly, EA has been pulling trash like this since Mass Effect 1, where you had to download some obscure update just to get it to work at all even on Windows 7.
And the only reason EA continues this behavior is because Valves hasn't had the balls to say enough is enough and stop carrying EA games. This thread is really about management, as the core problem is a management issue, not truly a programming issue.
And no, just not buying games from EA won't fix it, because they're too stubborn to care if I ask for a refund, but if Valve drops them, that will be the leverage we need for EA to actually care about people being able to play the games they bought.
And FF 12 and FF 13 from Steam work fine on my system BTW. So I know this is an EA problem, due to this and the fact that I have seen so many complain of the same issues.
