  • Steam AppID of the game: 2239710

System Information

  • Steam Deck (LCD)
  • Kernel version: 6.11.11
  • Proton version: 1757428112 proton-10.0-2e

I confirm:

  • [x] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

For context - weapon & flashlight aiming in the game is done by holding the right mouse button and aiming around. This previously worked for the Steam Deck when docked with an attached mouse, however as of a recent version of the game this no longer works, as the held right button does not behave as being held (and only triggers for a single frame).

After discussion with Unity, we have confirmed this is due to a low level engine change in how mouse input is processed on Windows, which Proton will need to be updated to reflect. We are hopeful that Proton can be updated to cater to this, as it will affect all Unity games running version 6000.0.57f1 and forwards, and it’s in everyone’s interests for Proton to broadly support Unity titles.

Commentary from Unity is that Proton “will need to implement a handler for WM_POINTER”.

Reproduction

Download and play the game.
Once in a scavenging level hold down the right mouse button to activate your flashlight.
Expected result: You can point your flashlight around while holding the right button.
Actual result: Flashlight will flick on for a fraction of a second and then disappear.

Hello @jeremyburgesspikpok, can you test how the game behaves with Proton Experimental? If that helps, then there's a decent chance that the Proton 10.0-3 release candidate has the same change and you could check that as well. (Fixed drag and drop not working correctly in games using newer Unity versions including Timberborn and Master of Command Demo. listed in #9088.)

Hi @kisak-valve — just tested, and yes! It seems to work correctly under Proton Experimental. Do you know when the 10.0-3 RC is likely to be released?
