I'm on fedora 43
After a recent system update, all games running on proton that use the nvidia gpu stopped working. native games work fine (tested devil daggers) but games on proton do not work (tested trepang2, hyper demon and pacific drive). steam and lutris says they're running but nothing shows up, also the log says nothing.
Tested Proton experimental and Proton GE

Hello @StarmanAkremis, can you check if you have mesa-25.2.7-2.fc43 and if downgrading to any other mesa package has an effect? (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/12470)

I am not using the mesa packages, I'm using the rpmfusion ones

Mesa should always be installed as part of the OS's base set of packages. Even if it's not for your active GPU, there might be an interaction during the startup of games, which is why I asked.

I use this __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland

I have tested without PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland, in fact I added those to see if it would fix it

Can confirm the problem on Mesa 25.2.7-2.fc43. Games are not launching with Proton 9.0-4 through Steam. Occurs with AMD GPU as well. Downgrading to 25.2.4-2.fc43 fixed all issues, games are starting as usual.

that fixed it, still, a downgrade shouldn't be necessary

also I've downgraded akmod-nvidia and xorg-x11-drv-nvidia before that, after updating these it doesn't work anymore, also I'm preety sure nothing is using my nvidia gpu anymore, it doesn't show up on nvtop and mangohud doesn't work

I previously said that ultrakill worked but I hadn't enabled nvidia offloading, it doesn't work with it

Closing in favor of https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/12470. This is a distro packaging issue and needs to be resolved in the video driver.
