Symptoms

Proton 10.0-3: The game does not recognize mouse commands, so you can't interact with the menu. Keyboard commands are recognized (as you can navigate left/right on the online top rankings window).

Other proton versions (not in log --> Proton Hotfix, Proton 9.0-4): During gameplay, move signals from the keyboard get "stuck" until you press the corresponding key again, when performing multiple actions at the same time. EG:

Strafing left by pressing <-- or A, while pressing SHIFT to dodge, then moving back by pressing S.
Expected behavior: character dashes to the left, then walks backwards.
Seen behavior: character dashes to the left, then continues walking left constantly even when moving backwards. Only stops walking left when the A key is pressed again.

Reproduction

Proton 10.0-3 issue: Launch the game, try to interact with the menu to get started. You will need to alt-tab to close the application, as the menu doesn't recognize mouse input.

Previous Proton versions: Launch the game, start new run, then press and hold 1 move key while performing another action that uses the keyboard (DASH, SPECIAL POWER, etc), then release the move button. The character will continue moving in the original direction as if the key was still being pressed UNTIL the key is pressed again.

Hello @wrongusernameyetagain, please note the newest Proton version you tested that is less quirky.

Hi @kisak-valve , thanks for your fast answer. I'll edit the original comment once I know if Proton Hotfix is newer than Proton 9.0-4. Given the name convention, I'd assume yes, but you never know.

So far I've tried the following:

  1. No proton compatibility enabled: game assumes a constant pressing of the W/forward key and the mouse keeps aiming upwards.
  2. Proton Hotfix & Proton 9.0-4 : Game is playable, but movement signals get stuck on as if they were pressed constantly until you press the key again.
  3. Proton 10.0-3: Game can't be started past the start-menu, as they mouse input is not recognized. No idea about the status of the keyboard 'stuck' behavior.

@wrongusernameyetagain checked proton 9,10 and experimental and didn't have issues with stuck movement or mouse recognition. Have you checked if alt tabbing, or pressing alt, has any effect on the input issues you are having? Do you have any other input devices connected (like gamepads)? I see that you are on cinnamon, so I'll try that later and see if it changes somehow

Hi @simifor,

I tried again after your comment, this time unplugging my controller and removing it from the wireless connections instead of just having it turned off.
Trying the game with just KB+M using Proton 9.0-4 worked flawlessly now.

I find it weird that the controller wireless might cause interference as I have it there for many other games and there hasn't been any issue.

In any case, this makes the game playable, thanks.

@wrongusernameyetagain can you try if it also solves your issue on proton 10? what controller are you using? and what did you mean by removing from wireless connection? bluetooth?

Wwrongusernameyetagain 2026-02-04 github

Hi @simifor ,

I've tried Proton 10.0-4 this morning and I still get an issue of directional commands being left "on" after performing multiple actions together or in quick succession (ie: strafing left + pressing SHIFT + pressing E to use an ability).

I've edited my response from "it's working well" to the above, as I got this issue 2 minutes into the game.

I'm using a Gamesir Cyclone 2. It comes with a charging station and you can connect to the computer by using either bluetooth or a wireless dongle. I have it configured to use this last mode.

What has been happening is that, even with the controller being "turned off" (either by being on the charging station, or unpugged, but not turned on), I was still getting interference when playing with KB+M.
Once I removed the dongle from one of the USB ports and tried playing with my keyboard again, thins worked out just fine.

I hope this explains it.

@wrongusernameyetagain closes thing I have to your setup is a 8bitdo ultimate controller with a 2,4GHz adapter, but I don't get the same symptoms as you. It'd be nice to know if any other cyclone users have the same issue or if the issue happens in other games. Might also be interested to know if disabling steam input has an effect on this issue.
