Launch 'Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition' with compatibility turned on, and select proton experimental
Skip the tutorial and intro
Load into the game, then quicksave
Quickload the game
Launch the game again, this time with proton v9.0-4 selected
Repeat steps 2-4
You will notice that the loading has become slightly shorter
When you use mods for the game, which typically increases system-load (generally via more enemies and so on), these minor differences compound. For instance, a 3 second load on v9.0-4 will become more like a 6 second load on proton experimental, when map loads become longer. In other words, proton experimental is roughly doubling the load times compared to proton v9.0-4 (and the other versions I tested, 8.0-5 and hotfix)

I confirm:
steam-6910.log
Symptoms
Game load times are twice as long as earlier proton experimental versions.
Also currently the case in comparison to the following proton versions: 9.0-4, 8.0-5, Hotfix
