Symptoms

Game opens to show the TVGS Logo and fades to black and stays black, not loading the Main Menu. Another thing to note is that the game seems to block Linux users from even installing the game and users have to go to Schedule I > Properties > Compatibility > Force Steam Play to install it

Reproduction

Schedule I > Properties > Compatibility > Force Steam Play > Install Game > Play

Game opens to the TVGS Logo and gets stuck there

I have the same problem with the black screen, but it's worth noting that during this "black screen" the game works by minimizing the window and by hovering the mouse over it you can even see a preview of the game, usually the first scene after spawn, but the game does not respond to movement or any keys.

The Demo v0.2.9f8 seems to work well after opening it in gamescope
Looks like something happened on the dev's side
Probably a bad unity update but that is just speculation on my part

Severe FPS drops when looking at city (game unplayable in city area) – works only on GE

The game does not launch at all when using Proton Experimental.

However, it does start correctly with Proton GE (specifically Proton GE 10-34).

The behavior is very unusual:

The game launches fine
Main menu works
Starting a new game / loading a save works without issues

Problem:

There is a massive performance issue related to the city area:

When inside the city → FPS drops heavily, severe stuttering, game becomes almost unplayable
When outside the city → performance is normal, smooth, comparable to Windows

The most important detail:

Even when the player is FAR AWAY from the city, simply looking in the direction of the city causes huge FPS drops and lag
Turning the camera away from the city (e.g. towards a forest or small houses) immediately restores smooth performance
This happens consistently and is 100% reproducible

So effectively:

City in view = huge lag and FPS drops
City not in view = smooth gameplay

Conclusion / suspicion:

This looks like a rendering or asset streaming issue specifically tied to the city.
Something is causing extreme performance degradation whenever the city is within view distance, even from far away.

Aside from this issue, the game runs perfectly fine.
