Hi! I followed the tips listed in one of the comments from the post you linked. it didn't really solve my main problem. changing my file path to a FHS path (/media in this case) did solve an unrelated issue, I'm still not able to get my games running. hell i haven't even opted into the RT3 client beta that's causing these issues. i might be doing something wrong with the workaround mentioned in that comment though.
Here's the listed workaround:
PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=/games:/storage/games
Here's what i entered:

I've also edited the permissions on my drive (by adding 'exec' and 'defaults' to the fstab via kde partition manager) but thyat hasn't done anything either. I'm uploading the log again. i don't see anything different from the last log but you might see something i don't.

so i've got an external ex4 ssd i use to store my games. the problem is that, if proton is not installed on the drive the game is, the game won't launch. due to other errors (DRIVE WRITE ERROR while launching and constant failed updates for proton) i can't put proton (or runtime for that matter) on the external SSD. I've done some digging and found that my prefix folder does not have the required files in it to run the game properly (see attached log and photos for details) The reason for this seems to be either:
A- steam consistently regenerates a broken prefix folder lacking the correct files.
B-the symlink functionality has broken for whatever reason when it comes to this folder
...or possibly both. I'm not quite sure.
the only solution I've found aside from moving the game to my main drive is to manually copy and organise the files from proton's prefix folder. but since every game has a unique prefix that would be torturous and an incredible waste of time to do.
I've tried verifying the files of proton, the game and the runtime, doing a clean reinstall. clearing the download cache, deleting the compatdata folder and having steam regenerate it (where i got the 'consistent' bit from), testing different versions of proton (where proton GE came in), a couple different launch parameters, deleting my external drive's folder and readding it again, and uninstalling and reinstalling the game, proton and the runner (many times). but nothing seems to work. I'm knee deep in troubleshooting here and on the verge of just swapping my drive's places so my main is for games and my external drive is for everything else. but the one problem is that i am extremely stubborn.
