Compatibility Report

  • Name of the game with compatibility issues: Far Cry Primal, Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5
  • Steam AppID of the game: 371660

System Information

I confirm:

  • [X] that I haven't found an existing compatibility report for this game.
  • [X] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Upon start, the games exe allocates all memory and swap after some seconds until the kernel kills it (oom)
Happens to the Ubisoft- and the Steam version. Problem also happening on Far Cry 4/5.

Don't know if related to hardware change (5800X3D -> 9950X3D)
Both systems have/had 64GB RAM.

Also happens with Lutris and regular Wine.

System is Debian13 with upstream Mesa (for compatibility with Doom Dark Ages)

Reproduction

  1. Install game
  2. Run game
  3. Gets killed by OOM

Hello @sub205, we're using one issue report per unofficially supported game title, so I've gone ahead and transferred this issue report to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2840#issuecomment-4134670147.
