@fredrixk the game's working fine on my end with a 4060m, the same driver version, and proton experimental + locally built vkd3d-proton for descriptor heaps changes as I don't think those would be on upstream proton otherwise. It also worked with the normal build of proton, without descriptor heaps. Have you tried wiping the prefix and seeing if the game starts without extra launch parameters?
@simifor Launching without those parameters gives me the same result - 'Fatal error' with a black screen'
I think this may have to do with the nvidia 50 series on linux. The devs have now given a patch note stating that the only fix for it now is to run it using -dx11. https://farfarwest.notion.site/help-me

It runs ok DX12 no need to use -dx11 using CachyOS's own proton-cachyos-11.0
and launch options PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap %command%
@rochy-roch It does crash sometimes even with the cachyos-proton and those launch options. It usually crashes when I try to pick up a gun fragment during the missions. Im assuming you are using the 50 series nvidia cards, usually these cards are the ones that have a problem with UE5.
@fredrixk
Sorry, yes you are right.
I dual boot and had only played full games in Windows. I'd installed it on CachyOS & messed about getting it to boot with DX12, see that it loaded ok to the home/Saloon area & just assumed that all was good. I just tried & i can't even load into a mission without it crashing and yes I'm using a 5080.
I use fedora, and no matter what proton I use, experimental, custom ones like CachyOS or GE, the game won't load. it will just immediately close before it actually launches. I have no idea what is going on but I would like to see what would be a problem
@Pixeldrifter825 Hi there. Attach a Proton log from a time it happened.
You can generate one by launching with PROTON_LOG=1 %command% in the game's launch options. A file called steam-3124540.log should appear in your users home folder. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)
@Blisto91 here is the Proton log of when I try to boot up the game, I am still confuse why it closes itself immediately without a crash report, with my name censored to no potentially dox:
@Pixeldrifter825 That is the full log? I assume it happens the same with standard Proton.
Have you tried rebooting to make sure there isn't some stuck process in the background?
@Blisto91 I didn't realize this was the actual log, so this was the end of the log (I believe)
@Pixeldrifter825 the game is working fine on my end, checked on a laptop with a 4060 and my desktop with a 9070. Github lets you attach text files so you should do that instead of screenshots, in case the file is too big, try zipping it as that will cut down the size a lot. Also, as this is upstream proton, make sure to capture the log without using a fork like proton-cachyos, at least when sharing here.
It'd also be good to know your computer information like gpu and driver version (it'll also be in your log but it's nice to have it more readily available as well).
And as this is a d3d12 game, it'd be good to know if any other d3d12 games are working on your system.
