Symptoms

When running The Witcher 3 under a bare Xorg session (no window manager), input events are not correctly received by the game regardless of the Proton version used.

Proton 7.0-6, 8.0-5, 9.0-4, Experimental, Hotfix:

• Mouse pointer events: ✅ Working
• Mouse click events: ❌ Not received by the game
• Keyboard events: ❌ Not received by the game

Proton 6.3-8:

• Mouse pointer events: ❌ Not received by the game
• Mouse click events: ✅ Working
• Keyboard events: ✅ Working
• Note: Input worked correctly in one isolated test run, this involved changing to fullscreen, windowed mode but could not be reproduced consistently. Behavior is effectively the same as newer versions.

In all cases, the issue is fully resolved by adding any window manager to the Xorg session like gnome-shell.

This issue has also been reproduced with other games (DOOM 2016, DOOM + DOOM II) across multiple Proton versions, suggesting it is not specific to The Witcher 3 but a general Proton/Wine input handling issue
in bare Xorg sessions without a window manager.

Reproduction

1. Start a bare Xorg session with no window manager ( sudo /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg )
2. Launch Steam
3. Launch The Witcher 3 (AppID: 292030) with any Proton version
4. Attempt mouse clicks or keyboard input in-game
5. Observe that mouse pointer movement works (on Proton 7.0+) but clicks
   and keyboard input are not registered

Workaround: Launch the Xorg session with any window manager present ( eg. mutter )
