Symptoms

8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired Controller (USB ID: 2DC8:310A) has partial input failure in all RGG Studio/Like a Dragon games, on my machine. (I don't have other machine to test it on)

Affected inputs: R2, L2, D-pad, and right stick. All other buttons work correctly.

Controller is recognized as a DirectInput device inside the Wine/Proton environment.

Running protontricks with wine joy.cpl reveals the following error: fixme:dinput:hid_joystick_device_try_open device usage ff7a:0001 not implemented.

Controller works correctly in all other Steam games and passes all input tests in Steam's controller visualizer.

Reproduction

  1. Connect 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired Controller (2DC8:310A)
  2. Launch any Like a Dragon / RGG Studio game with the current default proton version (Without forcing the use of a specific one) (Tested on Infinite Wealth, Yakuza in Hawaii and Like A Dragon)
  3. R2, L2, D-pad, and right stick produce no input in-game
  4. Downgrading to Proton 9.0-4 resolves the issue

Hello @WyllasSidjeno, we're tracking feedback on a per-game basis, one compatibility report per game title. Let's use this compatibility report to focus on Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Feel free to add a note to the preexisting compatibility reports for the other game titles if it makes sense.

Please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)

Extremely similar issue. For some reason it makes my right stick not work, right stick click is always bound to start, start is bound to R2, D-pad, X, and L2 do nothing.

Reverting back to Proton version: 9.0-4 fixes the issue.

I also got bitten by this today when trying the finish the game I haven't played for a while using current Proton Experimental with the new Steam Controller 2 and then also trying my old Xbox Witreless Controller Series S|X experiencing the same problem, only to find out it's an issue with Proton Experimental where for example the current 11.0 beta (11.0-1-beta5) works fine. The Proton versions I've tested are:

  • Not working: 1780064122 experimental-11.0-20260529
  • Working: 1769167055 proton-10.0-4
  • Working: 1779182095 proton-11.0-1-beta5

@AvaKliment @kfuetscher @WyllasSidjeno This should be fixed in the Proton Experimental that just released. Please let me know if it continues to still fail. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired Controller and SN30Pro+ I was unable to test, but the Xbox Series controller was one I was able to test and confirm it is now working on.
