Symptoms

When running the game with the native Wayland driver enabled via PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 on a Wayland session (CachyOS / KDE Plasma 6.6.5), the mouse cursor hover coordinates are broken inside the initial game launcher (Launcher.exe).

The main actionable buttons on the UI—specifically "Launch Game" and "Options"—fail to highlight when hovered over and do not register any mouse clicks. Curiously, text-based external hyperlink elements near the bottom of the window ("Mods", "Register Game", and "View Readme File") continue to highlight and function normally.

Reproduction

  1. Set the game's launch options in Steam to include PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command%.
  2. Launch the game from the Steam client to bring up the official Witcher 2 configuration launcher.
  3. Move the mouse cursor over the "Launch Game" or "Options" buttons. Observe that they do not highlight or respond to click events.
  4. (Optional Workaround) Removing PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 or running under XWayland entirely allows the cursor coordinates to map correctly, resolving the issue.

Hello @JavaDaVinci, no mainline Proton build has PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND. This needs to be evaluated by the maintainers of the third party build that added that runtime option.
